The dynamic nature of creation helps us to develop detachment. Any form of attachment karmically binds and blocks our spiritual development.
The Buddha called this ever-changing nature of life the ‘Law of Impermanence.’ The Holy Bible referred to this by stating: “This too shall pass.” It is a dynamic universe where ‘change is the law.’
Everything in life is impermanent: pain, pleasure, happiness, sorrow, prosperity, power- all are bound to change. There is nothing that can stay forever. An Indian proverb states that, “The new has nine days!” Even your feelings towards people change.
So, when you get a new car, a new job, a new boyfriend of girlfriend, or anything that excites you and puts you in ‘heaven’, gently remind yourself that ‘This too shall pass.’ Moreover, what was responsible for your pleasure can become the cause of your pain as well, and this happens even when people win a jackpot. Hence, do not be too attached to anything.
When life is good take full advantage of it to generate good karma. Enjoy it, but keep a balance between your material and spiritual side of life. Take the opportunity of good times to grow spiritually stronger so that when the ‘cycle of descent’ begins you are well equipped to face challenges.
When conditions of life are bad remind yourself that ‘This too shall pass.’ Remember: “When the wheel comes down, it has to go up.” So do not lose hope or courage. Learn your lessons properly from the situation and generate more good karma. Simply do what you can, and be patient. You will make it.
