Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha
Dharma protects the one who protects it.
Manu Smriti
I heard this true story about a man who came across a clairvoyant. According to the reading of the clairvoyant, this person would be stabbed as a result of his past negative karma. He was informed when this could happen.
After hearing this prediction, he started working on his karma and generated karmic income in every possible way. When his negative karma matured, he developed appendicitis and had to be rushed for emergency surgery.
Surely, he was stabbed as per the prediction but by the hands of an expert surgeon! It appears that even fate can be altered and improved through the power of good karma!
Not only it appears, it has been shared many at times by many spiritual practitioners. We can also refer to our own experiences, whatever kind of predictions that people had made about us looking at our palms or our horoscope.
As we start evolving spiritually, you would have noticed that nothing really is applicable to you. That means spiritual beings are beyond everything. Sometimes back, somebody was asking me, “I do not know whether I should get married to this girl because the pundits have predicted that the kundli is not good, the horoscope matching is not good”.
I simply had to tell him that, being a spiritual practitioner and that too an advanced spiritual practitioner, these things are no longer applicable to us, just move beyond all this. This is very important to understand. Of course, if you are a person who still has all these inclinations towards orthodox activities, at the same time, you are trying to practice meditation, this is okay.
But if you are into higher levels of meditation, you have to gradually come out of the clutches of all these restrictions because you have already transcended the grosser energies and implications of the material plane.
That means, though the planetary effect is happening but because your vibrations are very refined, it is no longer affecting you. Remember, it is only the problem of “like that attracts like.” If your energies are highly refined and oriented towards higher life, difficult for you to get affected with changes in the planetary position. Difficult, I’m not saying impossible, difficult!
So, what is applicable to the world is not applicable for an earnest spiritual aspirant. That means the destiny is in our hands. We can shape the destiny with commitment and with hard work. Absolutely possible. I am talking also from my own little experience.
The Magic
Tithing is not an expense. Tithing is a karmic investment.
-Grandmaster Choa Kok Sui.
Someone asked the Master, “How can I tithe when what I earn is not enough for myself?” The Master replied: “For you, it is 20%.”
So, normally when you say tithing, it means 10% of your income needs to be allocated for charitable purposes. That includes supporting spiritual organizations or humanitarian organizations, involved in service to the mankind.
In this particular case because the person asked a very important question to the Master, “How can I share because income is not sufficient to sustain my family?” The reply was 20% instead of 10%.
The man was taken aback because he had expected that he would be asked to tithe less!
So, the point is when what is hurting is very severe, you have to do double the effort to combat whatever that is necessary. All the time remind yourself that you need to be of greater service. Also, tithing is an extremely important aspect of your life.
That is why yesterday we went extensively in making you aware why you need to be very careful about your expenditure and save as much money as possible so that you will be in a better position to tithe more.
If you are able to comfortably tithe 10%, you have to possibly think of looking little more and see whether you can help more people, more institutions, especially humanitarian and spiritual organizations. That is exactly how you will grow faster.
But he managed to do this by cutting down on every possible expense.
Within a few months, many avenues for earning opened for him and in just three years, his financial position improved manifold.
So, you have to remember what Saint Francis of Assisi said so beautifully, “It is in giving that we receive.”
Give more of what you lack and this is the true secret to manifest what you need for yourself.
So, the greater you are able to share, more will come to you. Of course, sharing also needs to be in moderation. Never exceeding limits or never exceeding or violating the guidance of sharing which is applying intelligence in sharing. You should know to whom to give and when to give. That is very important.
Name and Fame
“Let not your left hand know what your right hand does.”
Holy Bible
People often publicize their small contribution and even get media coverage for it! And in some temples, you will find a long list of donors on the walls around the temple!
The more discreetly you tithe, the greater will be the returns from the tithing that you make. This is a very important thing. That is the reason why you will find some of the spiritual practitioners would not even share with you what they are doing and to whom they are giving. As far as possible, keep your tithing as discreet as possible.
If you do charity for publicity and popularity, then there will be little accumulation of good karma as it gets used in gaining name and fame.
As a result, you will not be able to take full advantage of your charity to neutralize your karmic debts and grow spiritually. Tithing has more power when done secretly.
Also, it is wiser to serve for your own sake rather than serving to impress others, as any craving for recognition is an obstacle on the spiritual path.
These are extremely important teachings that you need to understand. That means all the time serve and share for your own sake. Do not share and serve to impress people or to make somebody happy. Nobody needs to know what you are doing.
This is only applicable in the material world where you have to describe and tell the people what you are doing to the organization so that your superiors recognize your contribution. However, when it comes to the spiritual world, the rules are very different.
You have to learn to save your good karma and not spend it by getting fame and name. The more discreet is your service, your sharing, greater would be the accumulation and at a time when you need it the most, the whole universe will conspire to support you because you have a huge backup of good karma.
You have to remember that unless and until you have sufficient good karma, even the masters cannot help you. For the blessings of the masters to work also, you need to have certain level of good karma. That is why it’s always between you, the masters and God. Do not bring anyone in between.
Serve for the sake of serving. Share for the sake of sharing. Nothing more than that. Also, it is wiser to do service for your own sake rather than serving to impress others as any craving for recognition is an obstacle on the spiritual path.
So, all these kind of subtle expectations and desires over time become a stumbling block in your progress. We have been witnessing this happening many at times, the moment the attention is withdrawn from some people, they stop serving. They even give up doing spiritual practices.
That means all along, you have been focused on impressing people around, whether it is participating in the meditation or doing service. Unfortunately, it does not carry for a long time.
For a certain period of time, it is ok because it is like a scaffolding. It might be necessary for you but after some time, you cannot afford to have any crutch or for that matter any scaffolding. This is very important.
